KH offers a unique selection of products that showcase the best of Kumbakonam’s Heritage. They include traditional Brass Lamps (நாச்சியார்கோவில் குத்துவிளக்கு), Panchaloka Handcrafted Sculptures (சுவாமிமலை சிற்பங்கள்) and Handmade Silk Sarees (திருபுவனம் பட்டு புடவைகள்)
In the temple town of Thirubuvanam, several silk weavers design and produce beautiful, elegant sarees for women. These sarees are decorated with heavy zari work, bright colours, motifs, and exquisite designs to convey the femininity and boldness of women.
The patterns on the saree are inspired by the temple architecture of Thirubuvanam due to which they can be seen as emblems of South India. It is the softness of the silk, glimmer from the golden zari, prismatic appearance, and cultural expression through the motifs that make the Thirubuvanam saree stand out amongst several others.
Know MoreFor centuries, the temple town of Kumbakonam has been a spiritual and cultural hub. Among its many treasures is the Nachiarkoil Kuthuvilakku, a handcrafted brass oil lamp renowned for its exquisite beauty and intricate design. Using a time-honored technique involving a special sand mold and the bead-metal process, our artisans create these lamps that have graced countless Hindu rituals.
In keeping with the times, our artisans are now experimenting with new shapes and designs for Kuthuvilakku. Inspired by the changing seasons and contemporary aesthetics, we aim to create lamps that resonate with modern sensibilities while preserving the traditional essence of this beloved craft.
Know MoreThe Swamimalai bronze icons are not just symbols of worship; they are a reflection of the artistry and craft that is embedded in the Indian culture; they are emblems of the spirit of gods and goddesses; they are witness to the proposition that traditional handicraft can stand strong in the face of modernization.
It’s used to depict different gods, goddesses, saints, and in some cases, even men, women, and animals. However, most frequently made amongst these are the bronze icons of the deities. The icons of deities are mainly used for worship, wherein they are either made of a large size and placed in temples or made in a smaller size and placed in the homes of the devotees for personal worship or decoration.
